As per Kerala Higher Education Department's recent order, equivalence certificate is no longer required if the program is recognised by DEB - UGC. However, most universities have not implemented this order

b) If the course is conducted in distance mode then must obtain a letter from registrar of University proving that the course is conducted within territorial jurisdiction of the said University.
Online mode has been approved by UGC from 2021 onwards.. The first batch of most universities is about to pass out. When any student who has studied in this online mode applies for the equivalency certificate, the universities consider it and issue the equivalency certificates.
